    Safety Rules
In the laboratory there are measurement instruments that can to be used to check the amount of radioactivity and where it is. Hence you can verify that neither you nor your fellow students are exposed to irradiation above the safe limits.

In this exercise you are going to learn how to use a contamination detector ("monitor") to identify contaminated equipment or areas. The monitor ("Automess") contains a simple gas-filled chamber in which the ionizing radiation is detected (proportional or Geiger-Müller detector). Your supervisor will instruct you on how to use the detector.

    a list
The exercises are in different state of readiness: Ideally we would like each to have "plug and play" readiness. Then it should have a thorough description, student guides, teacher guides, links to relevant textbook sections and/or compendia (made available through NucWik), equipment list, safety evaluation, etc., etc. If in addition the exercise has been review by an independent NRC teacher approved by the CINCH project, it will have the "CINCH Approved" stamp to certify its quality and completeness. Many exercises haven't reached this stage of preparedness but is of course still included - the thought is that everybody will contribute to improve them until they reaches "plug and play" readiness and "CINCH Approved" quality status.
Introductory laboratory exercises: In these laboratory exercises the student are introduced to basic NRC concepts. They teach the student how to perform contamination checks, safe working procedures, etc. and everything else they need to have at least a basic knowledge about before they start on more complicated exercises.

List of Simulation Exercises (and Software)
Simulation of Gamma-ray Detection. With this simulation software you can selectively turn on and off the different absorption mechanisms that apply for detection of gamma-rays: Full-energy absorption ("photo-effect"), Compton scattering and pair formation. In this way each type of interaction can be studied undisturbed by other processes, something which is impossible to do in real life. The software also allows you to wary the width of the detector response-function, thus enabling you to model different types of gamma detectors (HPGe, NaI, etc.).

This is a rather simple LabView program that allows you to simulate the count rate that would be detected from two desintegrating nuclei with different half-lives. In addition to the emissions from the two nuclei, the detector would also measure a constant background. This background can be specified in the simulation (or omitted if set to zero).
